The film was directed by his father, and proved to be very successful at the box office: It was the highest grossing film in 2000 and winner of the Filmfare Best Movie Award. Hrithik's performance earned him Filmfare Best Debut Award and Filmfare Best Actor Award. That same year, Hrithik also starred in Fiza and Mission Kashmir which were only moderately successful at the box office.
